Tell Us In 10: Ins Choi

Published 18 January 2024

In our profile series, Tell Us In 10, we ask cast members and creatives of top London shows to tell us all about themselves in just 10 questions. From the best part of their jobs to the hardest, we want to know it all!

This week, we hear from Ins Choi, who’s currently playing Appa in Kim’s Convenience.

Find out more about Ins and his career so far below:

1. My route into theatre was…

Mostly because I grew up listening to my dad and his siblings tell stories about their adventures during the Korean War.

2. My West End idol is…

I grew up in Toronto, Canada and haven’t been to the West End yet, so, sorry, no idols…yet.

3. My colleagues would describe me as…

Busy. Funny. An instigator of ideas and motivation.

4. My favourite show (that isn’t one I star in/work on) is…

So difficult to choose a favourite…one show I really loved was Slava’s Snowshow.

5. The career moment I’m most proud of is…

Producing, directing and acting in my play, Kim’s Convenience, at the 2011 Toronto Fringe Festival and my parents, following the show, saying they were proud of me.

6. The hardest part about my job/role is…

Uncertain income source.

7. If I wasn’t an actor, I would be…

A hiking trail designer.

8. Something people don’t know about me is…

I’m quite shy and enjoy spending time alone.

9. The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…

Be grateful for what you have, where you are and who you’re with.

10. The one thing I wish I could tell my younger self is…

Keep your heart supple.

You can see Ins’ work in action in the award-winning comedy-drama (which inspired the Netflix hit!), Kim’s Convenience.
