Video: Elf musical’s cast recording

The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear. It’s a mantra, let me tell you, that does not ring quite as true at 02:00 in a quiet suburban cul-de-sac as you might think.

In a recording studio, however, the famous motto of Buddy The Elf is as true as the fact that Santa Claus sees you when you’re sleeping and knows when you’re awake.

This is fortunate, as a studio is exactly where Elf’s stars, including Ben Forster and Kimberley Walsh, went to record the original London cast album. Handily along with candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup for sustenance – we presume – they also took along a cameraman or two to film behind the scenes at the recording, giving you the chance to peek into a normally unseen world. It’s not Santa’s workshop, granted, but it’s nearly as magical.

Elf, which begins its run at the Dominion Theatre later this week, is based on the hit Will Ferrell film and tells the story of Buddy, a stowaway human raised by Santa’s elves at the North Pole. When it becomes apparent that he’s not like the other elves, Buddy embarks on an adventure, leaving Santa behind to find his real father… in New York.

All money raised by ticket sales from Elf’s gala performance on 5 November will be donated to Alzheimer’s Society.

If the video above has you more excited than, well, Buddy at Christmas, you can book tickets for Elf through us here. If you book by 26 November you will also be entered into a prize draw to win a trip to Broadway.
