Alex Gaumond joins Jane Fonda drama

West End star Alex Gaumond has joined Oscar nominee Anne Archer in the cast of The Trial Of Jane Fonda, which runs at London’s Park Theatre later this summer.

Gaumond, best known for his performances in Matilda The Musical, We Will Rock You and Legally Blonde, will play his first major non-musical role in Terry Jastrow’s drama, taking on the role of Larry Bonk.

Speaking about the production, Gaumond said: “I am very excited to take on the role of Larry in this fascinating play and to work with such a brilliant cast. If the auditions are anything to go by, the group dynamic on stage will be electric. In the few years since its opening, Park Theatre has quickly established a fantastic reputation for great work, so I am delighted to be performing there this summer.”

The roster of Gaumond’s co-stars includes three Park Theatre returnees, Paul Herzberg, Ako Mitchell and Mark Rose, who previously appeared in the Park productions of The Dead Wait, Klook’s Last Stand and Frozen respectively.

The cast is completed by Christien Anholt and Martin Fisher.

In creating The Trial Of Jane Fonda, writer Jastrow interviewed armed forces veterans and Fonda to get to the bottom of incidents surrounding the Vietnam war. In 1972, the acclaimed actress and vocal critic of the war travelled to Hanoi to draw attention to a cover up of planned bombing of irrigation dykes. A picture of her clapping and cheering astride an anti-aircraft plane immediately turned her from pin-up to traitor.

The Joe Harmston-directed production runs at the Park from 13 July to 20 August following current new musical The Buskers Opera and heart-warming IVF drama The Quiet House.
