Youth Music Theatre holds auditions

First Published 21 January 2016, Last Updated 22 January 2016

The UK’s leading music theatre company, Youth Music Theatre (YMT), is holding open auditions in London later this month to discover the next generation of musical theatre performers.

Anyone aged between 11 and 21-years-old hoping to follow in the footsteps of YMT alumni, including stage star Lauren Samuels and pop stars Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, can apply to audition at the Lyric Hammersmith on 30 January.

Successful auditionees will have the chance to join the YMT 2016 Company and work with professional theatremakers to create eight brand new musicals alongside a team of composers and musical directors.

Audition places cost £40 and there are currently still slots available from 10:00 to 13:00. There are also a further 25 cities hosting auditions across the UK. Full details can be found on the YMT website.

Following in the huge success of YMT’s West End hit Loserville, its creative team – Busted’s James Bourne and Elliot Davies – are back to create a new production for the season, The Busted Musical, which will play at the Brighton Theatre Royal. The line-up will also include a brand new adaptation of The Great Gatsby, site-specific contemporary dance-opera The Dark Tower, a woman’s boxing epic called Fight Like A Girl and Irish warrior tale The Frenzy of Sweeney (Buile Shuibhne).

Auditionees will take part in an informal three hour workshop with a director, musical director and choreographer, and a total of 300 talented young people will be invited to join one of eight residential courses over the summer. There is also the chance for musicians up to a Grade 7 standard to join the company to join the orchestra or onstage bands.

You can find full details and apply for an audition here.
