Triplett swaps ABBA for Spice

First Published 13 July 2012, Last Updated 16 July 2012

Sally Ann Triplett, who is currently Mamma Mia’s leading Dancing Queen, will swap 70s pop for 90s pop when she leads the cast of Spice Girls musical Viva Forever! this winter.

West End regular Triplett, it was reported in the Daily Mail today, will be joined in the production by newcomer Hannah John-Kamen who recently graduated from London’s Central School Of Speech And Drama.

The pair, who have both been part of the show’s development having performed in workshops, will play mother and adopted daughter Lauren and Viva. The musical, produced by Mamma Mia’s Judy Craymer, uses the famous Spice Girls pop songs to tell the story of Viva’s journey through a TV talent show and the strain it puts on her life and relationships.

For Triplett, the casting may be a case of art imitating life as the former Eurovision contestant recently watched her own son, Max Milner, work his way through to the closing stages of BBC talent show The Voice.

Triplett, who’s other London stage credits include the sexy long-runner Chicago, the Trevor Nunn-directed sitcom adaptation Acorn Antiques The Musical and the joyous National Theatre production of Anything Goes, will continue performing with Mamma Mia! until 22 September, transferring with the production to its new home at the Novello theatre on 6 September. She begins rehearsing Viva Forever! in October before the show begins its run at the Piccadilly theatre in November.

Further casting news is expected later in the summer.
