Tricycle’s Epic Adventure extends

Denton Chikura’s debut play The Epic Adventure Of Nhamo The Manyika Warrior And His Sexy Wife Chipo, which opened to critical acclaim last week, has extended its run at the Tricycle theatre until 24 August.

Lucian Msamati’s production, which was originally set to close on 17 August, will continue to bring its tale of a desperate narrator who is forced to create the ultimate African fable in just 24 hours to the Kilburn venue for an additional week.

The hit comedy, which was described by the Evening Standard’s Henry Hitchings as “noisy, silly and undeniably great fun”, features a cast that includes Don Gilet, Tanya Fear, Nyasha Hatendi and Ery Nzaramba.

The production marked Msamati’s first directing role as Artistic Director of leading British African theatre company Tiata Fahodzi following a string of acting roles including current National Theatre hit The Amen Corner and If You Don’t Let Us Dream, We Won’t Let You Sleep at the Royal Court, as well as the writing debut of Chikura, who has previously appeared at the Tricycle in The Arabian Nights.

The Epic Adventure Of Nhamo The Manyika Warrior And His Sexy Wife Chipo will be followed by a coming of age tale by another actor-turned-playwright, Colman Domingo’s A Boy And His Soul, which kicks off the venue’s autumn season from 4 to 21 September.
