Three Sisters casting announced

Vanessa Kirby, Mariah Gale and Gala Gordon will star in the Young Vic’s forthcoming production of Anton Chekhov’s classic Three Sisters, in a new version by the show’s visionary director Benedict Andrews.

The three actresses will star as Masha, Olga and Irina, three sisters who live in a remote Russian town dreaming of a more exciting existence in Moscow. Disaster, deception and meaningless self-sacrifice combine in Chekhov’s heartbreaking masterpiece.

Kirby, who starred in the recent BBC adaptation of Great Expectations, has appeared on the London stage in Women Beware Women at the National Theatre and The Acid Test at the Royal Court. Currently filming Richard Curtis’ new film About Time, the actress can also be seen in the soon to be released films Wasteland and Labyrinth.

An RSC regular, Gale received critical acclaim for her role as Juliet in the company’s 2011 production of Shakespeare’s tragedy. Her other stage credits include Vernon God Little, The Sea, ‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore and, most recently, The Pitchfork Disney. Her co-star Gordon, who plays youngest sister Irina, is soon to graduate from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Kirby, Gale and Gordon are joined in the cast by Emily Barclay, Harry Dickman, Gruffudd Glyn, Danny Kirrane, Richard Pryal, Ann Queensberry, Paul Rattray, Adrian Schiller and Sam Troughton.

Three Sisters will play at the Young Vic from 8 September, facing the press on 13 September.
