The Phantom Of The Opera to celebrate 30th anniversary

The West End production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s globally renowned musical The Phantom Of The Opera is to celebrate its 30th Anniversary at Her Majesty’s Theatre with a special charity gala performance on Monday 10 October.

To mark three blockbuster decades of success in London’s Theatreland, the hugely popular Olivier Award-winning show will see the current cast, including Ben Forster as The Phantom and Celinde Schoenmaker as Christine, joined onstage by members of the original company and special guests in a spectacular finale, all in aid of The Music in Secondary Schools Trust.

Having opened at the Haymarket venue on 9 October 1986, the multi award-winning production has gone on to be seen by over 140 million people in 35 countries, 160 cities and 15 different languages. By October 2016, it will have played 12,500 performances in London alone.

This year it was voted by the public to be the recipient of the 2016 Magic Radio Audience Award at the Olivier Awards with MasterCard, and it is currently the longest show running in Broadway history.

The Phantom Of The Opera is based on Gaston Leroux’s 1911 gothic novel and transports audiences to the grandeur of the Paris Opera House, where a mysterious masked man mentors Christine Daaé, a young protégé who, under his tutelage, soon becomes a leading lady. But the reintroduction of a childhood friend into her life sees his infatuation turn to bitterness, with devastating consequences.
