Study ballet with ENB

First Published 21 April 2008, Last Updated 28 April 2008

English National Ballet is offering an intensive dance course for young students of ballet on 28-30 May, linked to the company’s new production Strictly Gershwin at the Royal Albert Hall.

The course is open to young people aged 11-18 currently studying ballet at a minimum of Grade 3 level, who are familiar with the structure of a ballet class and confident with basic ballet technique.

Held over three evenings at 18:45-20:45 on 28, 29 and 30 May, the course comprises creative, non-syllabus based sessions led by Dance Artists from English National Ballet. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn more about the company and its production of Strictly Gershwin, which plays at the Royal Albert Hall from 13 to 22 June.

Dance course students are also invited to the Royal Albert Hall on the morning of Sunday 15 June to observe the dancers of the company as they take their daily ballet class. A ticket to that afternoon’s matinee performance of Strictly Gershwin is also included.

Choreographed in-the-round by Derek Deane, Strictly Gershwin is a celebration of composer George Gershwin’s sassy tunes and the glamour of 1940s Hollywood. World-renowned singer Barbara Cook, a 50-piece jazz orchestra and pianist Jonathan Scott accompany the dancers of English National Ballet as they perform Deane’s choreography to Gershwin numbers including Rhapsody In Blue, An American In Paris and Summertime. Agnes Oaks and Thomas Edur are among the dancers making guest appearances.

A place on the dance course costs £45 per person which includes a ticket to the 15 June 14:30 performance of Strictly Gershwin. Each participant may invite one parent/guardian to accompany them to the performance at an additional cost of £25.

To apply for the dance course contact the Department of Learning on 020 7581 1245 or visit the shop at www.ballet.org.uk no later than Friday 2 May. Places will be offered on a first response basis.
