Shrek celebrates first birthday

First Published 25 April 2012, Last Updated 4 May 2012

Shrek The Musical is soon to celebrate its first birthday in the West End and the swamp-dwelling ogre is having a party to mark the occasion.

On Sunday 6 May, the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, the home of Shrek and his fairytale friends, will open its doors to the public for a free family fete where there will be storytelling, party games, competitions and the opportunity to meet the fun-filled musical’s cast.

Following his birthday party, Shrek will say goodbye to Princess Fiona as she goes on an adventure to read much-loved stories to local children.

On her journey, she will stop off at the Tricycle theatre on 19 May and the Discover Storytelling Centre in Stratford on 16 June, where she will perform exclusive readings that bring the fairytale to life.

Since opening in the West End last year, the tale of the swamp-dwelling ogre who embarks on a life-changing adventure has been told over 400 times and has been seen by more than 600,000 people.
