Shakespeare In Love extends

First Published 22 August 2014, Last Updated 22 August 2014

Shakespeare In Love, the stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning film, has proved so popular with London theatre audiences that it will extend its run at the Noël Coward Theatre until 2015.

The romantic comedy that boasts one of the largest casts for a play ever seen in the West End will put 76,000 more tickets on sale from 1 September. The new tickets will give audiences the opportunity to book tickets for performances up to 10 January.

Adapted for the stage by Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall, Shakespeare In Love is a tale of love and writer’s block, as the world’s most famous playwright grapples with an inability to put words on a page only to find his pen inspired when he meets Lady Viola De Lesseps. As he knows only too well, the course of true love never did run smooth, and Viola’s social standing combined with her aching desire to star on a stage where only men can perform combine to create a delightfully hilarious conundrum.

The remarkable ensemble cast is led by Tom Bateman and Lucy Briggs-Owen as the lovers, and also features the canine talents of Barney the dog.
