This stage adaptation of the hugely popular 1998 romantic comedy is brought to the London stage starring Orlando James and Eve Ponsonby.

Adapted by Tony Award-winning writer Lee Hall, Shakespeare In Love brings to life the heart-warming and passionate story about the famous playwright as he struggles with writer’s block. Then inspiration arrives in the form of Viola De Lesseps and, as his forbidden love for the noblewoman escalates, it draws in all manner of characters and leads to the writing of the world’s greatest love story.

Directed by Declan Donnellan, James and Ponsonby take on the roles made famous by Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Fiennes in the hit film. Playing the eponymous playwright, James has previously appeared in the West End in The Madness of George III and Another Country.

Ponsonby, who plays love interest and muse Viola De Lesseps, has previously appeared in Longing at Hampstead Theatre and The Children’s Hour in the West End.

The pair previously performed together under Donnellan’s directorship in the Cheek By Jowl production of ‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore.
