Richmond welcomes Night Garden this summer

First Published 26 January 2011, Last Updated 27 January 2011

The live stage adaptation of popular children’s television show In The Night Garden is to set up its inflatable show dome in Richmond’s Old Deer Park this summer.

In The Night Garden Live, which is written by Teletubbies co-creator Andrew Davenport and directed by former Royal Ballet dancer and choreographer Will Tuckett, will play in Richmond at the end of July as part of a UK tour.

Igglepiggle, Upsy Daisy and Makka Pakka, who have been delighting two to four-year-olds on CBeebies since 2007, wowed young fans with their stage debut last year, which included a run at the O2 Meridian Gardens.

Recreating the world of the television programme inside a purpose-built, inflatable touring theatre, In The Night Garden Live features life-size costumes, magical puppets, music and projections.

Theatregoers can choose between two stories – The Pinky Ponk Show and The Ninky Nonk Show – and, for the first time this year, can also buy a ticket to meet one of their favourite characters in person after the show.

Speaking about the new tour, Davenport said: “Sitting in the audience for In the Night Garden Live and experiencing first-hand the fantastic party atmosphere, sharing the delighted excitement of children and parents alike, has to be the all-time highlight of my career. In the Night Garden Live has been a huge project, pioneering and challenging, both creatively and technically – so I am thrilled at its continued success, and look forward to seeing it on tour in exciting new locations around the UK.”

In The Night Garden Live plays in Richmond from 30 July to 13 August. Tickets go on sale at www.nightgardenlive.com on 28 January.
