Reid, Grainger and Lanipekun join Dimetos

Published 4 February 2009

Full casting for the Donmar Warehouse’s upcoming production of Athol Fugard’s Dimetos has been announced. Joining Jonathan Pryce are Holliday Grainger, Alex Lanipekun and Anne Reid.

Fugard’s tale stars Pryce as Dimetos, an engineer who leaves the city for a simpler life in a coastal village. Five years later, he receives a visitor from the metropolis whose attempts to entice Dimetos back have devastating consequences. The play runs from 19 March to 9 May (press night 25 March).

A veteran of the British stage, Reid’s previous credits include Happy Now? at the National Theatre, Epitaph For George Dillon at the Comedy theatre and The York Realist at the Royal Court.

Lanipekun, who recently appeared in the Royal Court production of Tarell Alvin McCraney’s Wig Out!, is best known for his role as journalist-turned-spy Ben in BBC drama Spooks.

Grainger, who plays Lydia, is also easily recognisable from her television appearances in shows including Demons, Merlin, Waterloo Road and Where The Heart Is, but is making her stage debut in this production.

Director Douglas Hodge has previously directed Murder In The Cathedral and Absurdia at the Donmar Warehouse. Better known as a performer, earlier this week he received a Laurence Oliver Award nomination in the category of Best Actor In A Musical for his performance as Albin in La Cage Aux Folles.

Dimetos follows current production Be Near Me at the Donmar Warehouse. The National Theatre Of Scotland co-production, the tale of a priest who forms a dangerous relationship with two teenagers, runs until 14 March.
