Olivier winner leads legal aid drama

Former Olivier Award winner Niall Buggy will lead a cast that also includes Nicholas Bailey, Alexandra Gilbreath, Scott Karim and Sirine Saba in the world premiere of Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s The Invisible.

The drama, which runs at the Bush Theatre from 3 July, explores the human impact of the recent cuts to the legal aid system.

Based on interviews carried out with people at all levels of the British justice system, The Invisible aims to tell the stories of ordinary people affected by the £350m of cuts to legal aid and examine how they are widening the cracks in society.

Multi award winner Buggy collected his Olivier statuette in 1995 for his performance in Dead Funny. It’s kept company by Time Out, Obie and Drama Desk Awards for his performance in Aristocrats.

His co-stars Gilbreath and Saba boast a host of Royal Shakespeare Company credits between them, while Karim is building a career with credits already including Dara, Great Britain and Othello at the National Theatre. Bailey, who has appeared on stage the length and breadth of the country, may still be best known as EastEnders’ Dr Anthony Trueman.

The Invisible, which is supported by The Law Society, opens at the Bush following the run of political playwright James Graham’s latest hit The Angry Brigade. The tale of 1970s anarchists plays at the west London venue until 13 June.
