Noël Coward hosts Million Dollar Quartet

Published 19 November 2010

The Tony Award-winning Million Dollar Quartet will make its West End debut at the Noël Coward theatre in February 2011. Currently playing on Broadway and in Chicago, the musical tells a story of fame, friendship, professional jealousy and incredible music.

Directed by Tony Award-winner Eric Shaeffer, who made his West End debut with The Witches Of Eastwick, Million Dollar Quartet tells the electrifying story of the night when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis came together to make music and ended up making history.

Brought together by Sun Records’ founder Sam Phillips in 1956, it was the only time the four artists, all in their creative prime, worked together. Based on the real events of that meeting when a jamming session led to an impromptu, now famous, recording, Million Dollar Quartet contains over 20 rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, gospel and country hits from the catalogues of the legendary musicians, including Blue Suede Shoes, I Walk The Line, Fever, Great Balls Of Fire, Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On and Folsom Prison Blues.

Million Dollar Quartet has a book by acclaimed writing duo Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux, who were nominated for Best Book at the 2010 Tony Awards. Casting has yet to be announced but the production team has held open auditions across the country to find people who can take on playing the iconic musicians.

Million Dollar Quartet opens on 28 February 2011, with previews from 8 February. Tickets go on sale on 4 December.
