Miss Julie sets eyes on West End

Published 18 December 2015

Theatre Royal Bath is to stage a new production of Patrick Marber’s adaptation of After Miss Julie starring Strictly Come Dancing’s Helen George with plans to bring it into the West End following a UK tour.

Directed by former NT Associate Director Anthony Banks, After Miss Julie will open at the acclaimed Bath venue on 24 May before heading off on a limited pre-West End UK tour, including a stop at London’s Richmond Theatre on 11 July.

Inspired by August Strindberg’s classic drama about an alluring 19th century aristocrat who wanders into the servant quarters of her opulent home, Marber’s version sets the action in an English country house in 1945 on the eve of Labour’s landslide victory.

The erotic psychological thriller will star Call The Midwife star George as the titular character. Now a household name for her recent appearance on the BBC’s hugely popular Strictly Come Dancing, the actor has appeared extensively on stage, appearing in musicals The Woman In White and Love Never Dies, as well as fringe productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, By Jeeves and Company at the King’s Head.

Further casting and London dates are still to be announced.
