Le Gateau Chocolat

Menier turns Gateau factory

First Published 3 July 2012, Last Updated 3 July 2012

The eccentric, larger than life operatic performer Le Gateau Chocolat will take his solo show to the Menier Chocolate Factory for a limited run this summer.

The star from popular cabaret shows La Soirée and the Olivier Award-winning La Clique will take up residency at the London Bridge venue from 13 to 26 August.

Audiences should be ready to expect the unexpected, as the performer delivers his unique performances of everything from Radiohead to Shirley Bassey, dressed in the most flamboyant, glittery, colourful costumes imaginable, accompanied by the contrastingly conservative piano and strings.

Le Gateau Chocolat has taken his dulcet tones and delectable costumes around the world, performing everywhere from the Royal Opera House to Basement Jaxx gigs. The Metro described one of the baritone’s performances last year as “An hour of touching reminiscence…nothing is ever gonna rain on Le Gateau’s sequined parade.”

Le Gateau Chocolat will bridge the gap between current Menier Chocolate Factory show Torch Song Trilogy, which plays until 12 August, and Anthony Rapp’s one man show Without You, which opens on 29 August.
