La Soirée returns for Christmas run

First Published 8 September 2014, Last Updated 8 September 2014

Popular cabaret show La Soirée will return to London this Christmas to play as part of the Southbank Centre’s Winter Festival in its decadent Spielgeltent home.

The 10th anniversary of the eccentric troupe, which includes an array of talents from a cheeky burlesque dancer to Hamish McCann and his one-of-a-kind pole dancing routine, will arrive just in time to get merry over the festive season from 5 November to 11 January.

Speaking about the popular show’s return to London following a three year break, Brett Haylock, the show’s creative producer, said: “London is where audiences and critics fell in love with our dysfunctional family like no other. For our contemporary carnies and troubadours of no fixed abode, London is home.”

Promising a heady cocktail of “cabaret, new burlesque, circus sideshow and contemporary variety”, the return will see a mix of La Soirée favourites and debutants take to its mischeovous stage, as Haylock explained: “We’ve been away from London for three years and have discovered extraordinary talents on our travels, so there’s a new generation of cabaret stars joining very dear old friends as well.”

Amongst the La Soirée regulars will be acrobatic wonders The English Gents, the hanky hiding Ursula Martinez, and Australian hula hoop master and comedian Jess Love. Newcomers will include everyone from the spandex-clad Scotty The Blue Bunny to flying pole duo – we imagine it has to been seen to be believed – Saulo & Anna.

Strictly one for adult audiences, La Soirée has played four seasons to London audiences at venues including the Roundhouse and the Hippodrome. This year’s run will return to its 2010 venue, the glamorous velvet-draped Spielgeltent.
