Kids theatre at Camden Fringe

First Published 22 July 2009, Last Updated 22 July 2009

Shows about sheep, camping and magical dustbins feature in the line-up of child-friendly entertainment at this year’s Camden Fringe, which takes place from 3 to 30 August.

Established in 2006 by Camden-based theatre company Etcetera Theatre as an alternative to the well-known Edinburgh Fringe, the Camden Fringe has grown in three years to encompass five venues and a burgeoning line-up of acts.

This year’s programme features a number of shows for children: You Beautiful Ewe (3-8 August), a new comedy musical for the under sevens, promises baahber-shopping ewes, a dishy ram and a crooning wolf; Tom Tit Tot (9-13 August) will entertain two to 10 year olds with puppetry and storytelling; Gomito Productions invites children into a mysterious museum, complete with magical dustbin, in The Night Keeper (15-16 August); while Vayu Naidu Company plans to enchant the over fives with some interactive storytelling in Live Book Tour (12-14 August).

Older children and young adults can be equally entertained at this year’s Camden Fringe by shows including: Sinbad (3-4 August), a show of clowning and circus; seductive stories of kings, princes and eunuchs in Under The Arabian Moon (3-4 August); Grimms (6-8 August), a witty and energetic adaptation of the dark Brothers Grimm fairytales; and The Three Musketeers (9 August) in which Radio 4’s Faultless and Torrance shoe-horn Dumas’s classic into an hour of absurd physical comedy.

Shows take place in venues around the Camden area, including Etcetera Theatre, the Roundhouse and the Camden Head.
