Kids take Livingstone hostage at Court

First Published 1 July 2013, Last Updated 1 July 2013

A group of young playwrights aged between eight and 11-years-old will take Ken Livingstone hostage as part of Kids Court at the Royal Court this summer.

The final week of new Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone’s Open Court programme, Kids Court will see grown-up writers step aside as their younger counterparts take over the Sloane Square venue from 16 to 20 July.

The former Mayor of London will take part in VIP Hostage on 17 July, an event that gives a panel of children the chance to put a famous name in the hot seat to answer their questions.

Talking about his involvement, Livingstone said: “I’m delighted to be part of Kids Court and very proud to be their chosen VIP hostage. I’ve faced some tough interviewers in my time as Mayor of London, but this could be my most challenging yet. It’ll be very interesting to see what questions they throw at me and I’m very much looking forward to it.”

Alongside work written by primary school aged children, Kids Court will also feature workshops, talks, backstage tours led by budding young playwrights, a family day and Upfront, which will see the Royal Court staffed for one evening by children.
