Interview: The cast of Jesus Christ Superstar

Jesus Christ Superstar at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre has proven quite the standout production, claiming this year’s Magic Radio Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival; we spoke to cast members Tyrone Huntley, Declan Bennett and David Thaxton about why it’s a must-see.

Following its overwhelming sell-out success in 2016 in a six-time Olivier Award-nominated run (winning Magic Radio Best Musical Revival), Jesus Christ Superstar returned to the al fresco venue this year.

Best Actor in a Musical nominee Huntley returns as Judas, with Bennett (Jesus), Thaxton (Pilate) and Peter Caulfield (Herod) also reprising their roles.

Loosely based on the Gospels’ accounts of the last week of Jesus’ life, the show details the interpersonal struggles between Jesus and Judas Iscariot through rip-roaringly powerful and punchy music.

With a renowned score including I Don’t Know How To Love Him, Gethsemane and Superstar, musical direction by Tom Deering and choreography by Drew McOnie, direction from Timothy Sheader, and spectacle, comedy and heart-breaking betrayal in abundance, this production offers an epic experience.
