In rehearsal: ‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore

Shakespeare’s Globe has described its forthcoming production of John Ford’s classic ‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore as combining “intense reflection with explosive violence”. We could be wrong, but from these rehearsal images, we’d say it’s looking more like “intense facial hair with explosive laughter”.

Of course these shots are probably more reflective of how much fun it is rehearsing a show under the direction of the acclaimed Michael Longhurst than the content of the production itself, which tells the infamous story of doomed incestuous love, promising tragedy and heartbreak galore.

While we’re already particularly partial to an evening of dark dramatics in the autumn months, we can’t think of a theatre better suited to a dose of brooding drama than the Globe’s candle-lit, atmospheric Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.

The show, which stars Max Bennett and Fiona Button as the controversial lovers, will open the second ever season of work in the venue’s indoor theatre. You can find out more and book tickets for performances beginning on 23 October by visiting the theatre’s website here.
