It’s rare that a location lives up to its name, but on Sunday Piccadilly Circus was abuzz with big top performers.
Acrobats, tightrope walkers, trapeze artists, jugglers and stilt walkers helped the famous central London location explode with extravagant entertainment. The surrounding area was transformed into a pedestrianised wonderland of curiosity and awe as performers made the crowds’ collective jaw drop with performances on specially created stages and on the streets.
The Piccadilly Circus Circus, which was conceived by Crying Out Loud and commissioned by the Mayor of London and the London 2012 Festival, came to its conclusion with a performance of zip wire spectacular Place Des Anges. Aerial acrobats suspended 30 metres above the audience played the part of renegade angels cavorting in the sky before shedding their wings to let feathers fall like snow on the spectators below.
