Globe springs into action

Published 24 February 2011

Shakespeare’s Globe’s regular Activity Weekend returns on 12 and 13 March offering families the chance to sample some action-packed activities in the venue’s permanent exhibition.

Live demonstrations include sword-fighting, stage combat and Elizabethan costume dressing, while visitors also get the chance to see a full-size recreation of a 17th century printing press at work, showing how Shakespeare’s plays were preserved for future generations.

The extra activities are included in the price of a ticket to the permanent exhibition, which includes interactive displays about the use of music, costume and special effects in Shakespeare’s day.

Visitors to the Globe Exhibition can also enjoy a half-hour tour of the theatre itself, led by a guide who will tell stories about the original 1599 Globe and the present reconstruction.
