Globe hosts party for Bard’s birthday

First Published 9 April 2014, Last Updated 9 April 2014

Shakespeare’s Globe will celebrate the Bard’s 450th birthday by inviting families to a free birthday party on Easter Monday.

The Bankside venue will open its doors between midday and 17:00 on 21 April for parents and their little ones to enjoy fun and games in the form of bouncy castles, balloon-twisting, pass the parcel and musical Roman statues.

A party wouldn’t be a party without jelly and ice cream, which will be provided during the afternoon along with the opportunity to get involved with cake decorating.

There will also be entertainment from improvisational theatre company The School Of Night, which returns following its performance for Shakespeare’s birthday celebrations in 2013 to perform Bard-related rhapsodies, poetry and drama on the Globe’s stage using ideas from the audience.

The family event is absolutely free and there is no need to book so families can simply turn up and enjoy the party.
