Actress Sadie Frost and former Libertines guitarist Carl Barat will appear on stage together in Sam Shepard’s Fool For Love at Riverside Studios in January. The pair will perform as part of a season of productions by theatre company Love&Madness, which also sees Frost appear in Shakespeare’s Richard III.
Frost, an actress and businesswoman known for her high profile marriage and divorce from actor Jude Law, returned to the stage earlier this year, after an absence of more than 20 years, for one-woman play Touched…For The Very First Time at Trafalgar Studios. Frost’s screen work includes Dracula, An Ideal Husband, Uprising and, this year, The Heavy.
Barat, who makes his stage debut playing Eddie in Fool For Love, is a musician who, along with Pete Doherty, fronted the band The Libertines which released two acclaimed albums before disbanding in 2004. Barat went on to form Dirty Pretty Things, which had a hit with the single Bang Bang You’re Dead.
Commenting on working with Frost and director Neil Sheppeck on Fool For Love Barat said: “I have always wanted to act, so when Sadie and Neil offered me this I was very much up for it. It’s certainly one hell of a challenge, but I’m really enjoying the process of collaboration.”
Shepard’s intense, yet darkly comic play Fool For Love is set in a motel room on the edge of the Mojave desert and centres on the tragic love-hate relationship between May and Eddie. It was last produced in the West End at the Apollo theatre in 2006 starring Juliette Lewis.
Fool For Love plays at Riverside Studios from 25 January to 21 March (press night 28 January) in repertory with Richard III, in which Frost plays Lady Anne, and devised piece Demi-Monde.
