First Published 17 April 2008, Last Updated 18 April 2008

The Barbican is offering children and families the chance to try a spot of flamenco dancing on 16 June as part of their festival The 1000 Year Journey.

The Big Flamenco for families, which takes place on Saturday 16 June from 10:00-12:00, is a practical workshop led by professional dancers where participants can explore the rhythms, clapping, clacking, castanets and fancy footwork of this traditional Spanish dance. The workshop is suitable for children over five.

The 1000 Year Journey opened on 29 May in the Barbican Hall and runs until 16 June. The festival features some of the greatest names from the world of Roma and Gypsy music including Fanfare Ciocarlia, Taraf De Haidouks, Selim Sesler and Vassilis Saleas.

Tickets for The Big Flamenco cost £5. For more information and to book, visit www.barbican.org.uk
