The highly anticipated world premiere of Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical will be opening at the Lyric Theatre from 1 October and we’re counting down the days!

In the week of Jamaican Independence Day (6 August), rehearsals have begun for the brand new musical with new images and footage released today!

In this brand new musical spectacular, audiences will be taken on a journey to the hills of rural Jamaica where Bob Marley is determined to become world-renowned for his prophetic musical message – a gospel of love and unity.

The multi-award-winning team, who have been granted an unlimited access to Bob Marley’s platinum-selling catalogue of music, will feature Lee Hall (writer), Clint Dyer (director) and Arinzé Kene (playing Bob Marley).

And it doesn’t stop there as the production will be bringing a dynamic company of performers together who will fuse with the finest reggae musicians to bring this exhilarating story of struggle, freedom and transformation from Trenchtown to the West End. Crucial fellow soul rebels in the cast include the sensational Rita Marley played by Gabrielle Brooks and the I Three and his inspiring brothers in arms played by Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer and Lee ‘Scratch Perry’.

The musical is partnering with the Black Ticket Project where Arinze Kene is an official ambassador. Over the course 2021 1000 free tickets will be given to the project to distribute. Black Ticket Project is an award-winning bridge organisation founded by producer and writer Tobi Kyeremateng. They work with independent youth workers, youth organisations, school and charities, and cultural organisations to foster cultural experiences for Black young people. Further initiatives including participatory work between the organisation and the production are to be announced.
