Downton star joins Hotel Plays

First Published 26 September 2012, Last Updated 26 September 2012

Downton Abbey’s Matt Milne will swap a country estate for a London hotel when he joins the cast of Tenessee Williams’ The Hotel Plays next month.

The actor, who plays footman Alfred in the award-winning period drama, appears in the unique production being staged at the stylish Grange Holborn Hotel by Defibrillator Theatre Company. Audiences will spend the evening moving from the hotel’s marble-ous lobby to three shifting suites, watching a trio of plays written and set in hotels and boarding houses.

Milne stars opposite Clare Latham in Green Eyes, which was written by the A Streetcar Named Desire playwright in 1970 but unpublished for nearly 40 years. The two-hander explores the impact of war through the sexual fantasies of a newly-wed couple.

Charlie Holloway, Carol MacReady and Joshua Silver appear in Sunburst, a drama about a retired actress taken hostage by two scheming men, while John Guerrasio and Laurence Dobiesz play an inexperienced hustler and insecure older writer in The Travelling Companion.
The season of site specific productions of these rarely seen plays runs from 4 to 27 October.
