Caulfield joins Chicago

First Published 17 April 2008, Last Updated 21 April 2008

Scottish-born American actor Maxwell Caulfield takes on the role of Billy Flynn in Chicago from 29 May for a limited five-week season finishing on 30 June.

Caulfield first came to prominence on television and film in the series Dynasty and its spin-off The Colbys, though he had already starred alongside a young Michelle Pfeiffer in 1982 sequel Grease 2. His screen work since then has included films Dream City, The Real Blonde and The Man Who Knew Too Much, while he was more recently on UK screens playing Dr Jim Brodie in BAFTA-winning medical soap Casualty. Though Chicago is his British stage debut, Caulfield has enjoyed a long stage career in the US, appearing on Broadway in Entertaining Mr Sloane, An Inspector Calls, My Night With Reg, Class Enemy, Tryst, My Deah and Our Leading Lady.

Caulfield replaces Michael Simkins as Billy Flynn in Chicago, joining a cast which currently includes Josefina Gabrielle as Roxie, Amra-Faye Wright as Velma, Matthew Lloyd Davies as Amos and Susie McKenna as Mama Morton.

The Kander and Ebb musical Chicago tells the story of showgirls Roxie and Velma, whose dreams of stardom are hindered when they find themselves in jail. Sleazy lawyer Billy Flynn is employed to get them out and make them famous in the process. CB
