Cats returns for autumn season

First Published 24 April 2015, Last Updated 24 April 2015

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic Cats will return to the London Palladium for a final ten week season from 23 October following its current hugely successful revival run.

The seminal musical, which takes inspiration from T.S. Eliot’s poems about the feline creatures to tell the surreal but wonderful story of the Jellicle cats and their Jellicle Ball, returned triumphantly to the West End last year and is now in the final days of its Olivier Award nominated run.

Featuring much-loved songs including Mr Mistoffelees, Macavity: The Mystery Cat and the iconic Memory, Cats was first staged in 1981, when it went on to run for a record-breaking 21 years.

2014’s high-profile return of the show reunited the original creative team, including director Trevor Nunn and choreographer Gillian Lynne, and has seen both Nicole Scherzinger and Kerry Ellis play the iconic role of Grizabella.

Writing about the show’s opening last December, The Independent’s Paul Taylor described the show, with its “exuberant confidence” as “the cat’s whiskers”.

Casting for the strictly limited season is to be announced shortly.
