Biggins hosts The Night Of 1000 Voices

Published 8 November 2011

Annual fundraiser The Night Of 1000 Voices is to return to the Royal Albert Hall on 6 May next year hosted by entertainer and panto star Christopher Biggins.

Staged to raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, The Night Of 1000 Voices sees choirs from all over the UK come together to sing favourites from musicals. Next year’s theme, Best of British, will include songs from Evita, The Lion King, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Misérables and We Will Rock You.

As always, some famous names will be joining the choirs on stage. Previous guests have included Kerry Ellis, Josh Groban, Brian May, Elaine Paige and Tim Rice, though 2012’s participants are yet to be announced.

Host Biggins is one of Britain’s best-loved entertainers, with credits including classic children’s television show Rentaghost, West End musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and numerous pantomime appearances.

All proceeds from the evening will go to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, the charity dedicated to research into treatments and cures for all blood cancers. Cathy Gilman, Chief Executive of the charity, said: “Since 1960, Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research has invested in world-class research and survival rates have increased dramatically for patients with leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.  However, there’s still a long way to go and money raised from this evening will help us get closer to a cure.  In 2010, The Night of 1000 Voices raised in excess of £140,000 – a phenomenal sum.”

Tickets for The Night Of 1000 Voices start at £17.50 and can be purchased from the Royal Albert Hall box office on 020 7589 8212.
