An Inspector Calls on London again

First Published 27 May 2016, Last Updated 27 May 2016

Stephen Daldry’s Olivier Award-winning production of An Inspector Calls will return again to London this autumn. It will run at the Playhouse Theatre from 4 November.

The West End return of the hit play marks the 25th anniversary of the production’s first staging at the National Theatre and the 70th anniversary of the JB Priestley’s drama’s first performance.

The haunting thriller begins with Inspector Goole arriving unexpectedly at the home of the well-off Birling family. His investigation into a young woman’s death brings their peaceful family dinner party crashing down around them.

Speaking about the production, Daldry said: “Each time we have mounted this production it seems more relevant than the last, with the refugee crisis, the European referendum debate and American elections, you can’t fail to see the genius of Priestley’s writing.”

Casting for the production, which is famous for Ian MacNeil’s ground-breaking design, is yet to be confirmed.

An Inspector Calls opens at the Playhouse Theatre following another returning hit, the acclaimed 1984, which plays at the venue during the summer.
