Kit Harington and Johnny Flynn star as two warring brothers in the scorching Californian desert in Sam Shepard’s ferociously funny modern classic, True West.

Pulitzer Prize-winner Shepard’s clever critique of the American Dream makes its West End premiere at the Vaudeville Theatre, with Harington (Game Of Thrones) and Flynn (Beast, Genius) playing siblings at war Austin and Lee. Olivier Award-nominated Matthew Dunster (Hangmen, Love And Money) directs.

Set in searing heat, True West centres on a family tearing itself apart. Austin is working on a movie script that he has sold to producer Saul Kimmer when Lee stumbles back into his life. And tensions soon boil over when Lee, not content to watch on from the sidelines, pitches his own idea to Kimmer – an idea which has far-reaching consequences and triggers a conflict that pits brother against brother.

Two of the most challenging and sought after roles in modern drama, some of the greatest American and British actors of the last 30 years have played the brothers since True West’s debut in 1980.  The show marks the first production of Shepard’s work since his death in the summer of 2017.

Kit Harington makes his first appearance on the West End stage since starring in the titular role of Doctor Faustus in 2016. He is perhaps best known for his Emmy-nominated role of Jon Snow,  in the Emmy Award winning HBO drama series Game Of Thrones, which he has played since 2011. Flynn, meanwhile, most recently played the protagonist Pascal in feature film Beast – which received critical acclaim at the Toronto Film Festival this year, prior to its premiere at the London Film Festival. He was Olivier Award-nominated for his role in Jerusalem (West End) and starred in Martin McDonagh’s Hangmen in the West End and on Broadway.

Dangerous, unsettling, and by turns brilliant, True West explores how our dreams grapple with one another with shocking consequences.
