The Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre brings to life this powerful tale of love and betrayal as part of its 2014 season.

Directed by the venue’s Artistic Director Timothy Sheader, The Gershwins’ Porgy And Bess tells the story of a crippled beggar’s determination to tame Bess in an attempt to save her from a life of ruin.

The cast includes Rufus Bonds Jr (Porgy), Nicola Hughes (Bess), Phillip Boykin (Crown) and Sharon D Clarke (Mariah).

Hughes and Boykin return to their roles having appeared in previous productions of the musical. Hughes received an Olivier Award nomination for her performance in Trevor Nunn’s 2006 production, while Boykin was nominated for a Tony Award when in the musical’s recent revival on Broadway.

Clarke is best known for her musical roles in We Will Rock You and Ghost The Musical, for which she too received Olivier Award nominations, and American actor Bonds Jr comes to London following appearances in US tours of Parade and Disney’s The Lion King.
