Kelsey Grammer is making his West End debut in a revival of Man Of La Mancha at the London Coliseum.

The production is in collaboration with Michael Linnit and Michael Grade – the producers behind Chess, Carousel, Sunset Boulevard and Sweeney Todd – and English National Opera. It’s the first time this multi-Tony Award-winning musical will be staged in London in over 50 years.

Man Of La Mancha is inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ story Don Quixote, which sees a haphazard knight set off on a fantastical quest with his servant Sancho Panza. Narrated by Cervantes (Grammer) – as a means of fending off the Spanish Inquisition – the musical sees chivalry, knighthood, love, loyalty and adventure abound, featuring the iconic song The Impossible Dream.

Kelsey Grammer is best-known for playing the roles of Frasier Crane in both Cheers and Frasier. Throughout his prolific career both on stage and screen, he has earned Emmy and Grammy Awards as well as a Tony Award nomination. He made his London stage debut in 2017 in Big Fish at the Other Palace Theatre.

Starring opposite Kelsey will be beloved actor Nicholas Lyndhurst (best know for his work in Only Fools And Horses) as the Innkeeper/the Captain; Peter Polycarpou (Les Mis, Evita) as faithful squire Sancho Panza; and international opera sensation Danielle de Niese and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical’s Cassidy Janson, who will share the role of Aldonza and Dulcinea. Danielle will be performing in 33, and Cassidy in 17, performances of Man of La Mancha.

Man of La Mancha will be directed by Lonny Price, who directed Linnit and Grade’s acclaimed London production of Sunset Boulevard at the Coliseum starring Glenn Close, as well as its hugely-successful subsequent Broadway transfer.

Man Of La Mancha opens to previews on 26 April and will run until 8 June 2019. Press night will take place on 30 April.
