Elphaba traded in that black witch’s hat for one of the party variety as Wicked celebrated its 12th birthday last night (27 September)!

The West End and Broadway hit musical has been seen by more than 55 million people worldwide, with over 9 million people seeing it in London alone. On top of that, it’s the fifth longest-running musical currently playing in the West End.

Wicked’s Executive Producer, Michael McCabe, said: “We are thrilled to be celebrating 12 remarkable years at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. We’d like to offer heartfelt thanks to all of our incredible staff, casts and companies that have all worked so tirelessly and passionately to deliver every single performance of Wicked since 2006. Congratulations to you all on this stunning achievement. Our thanks also go to our amazing audiences whose unwavering support has enabled us to become one of the West End’s longest running and most popular shows.”

Wicked is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire. It reimagines L. Frank Baum’s magical The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz, taking a step back in time to explore how the Wicked Witch Of The West and Glinda The Good came to be.

Telling the untold story of an unlikely but profound relationship that forms between two sorcery students, we see what happens when the pair encounter the Wonderful Wizard Of Oz and their fates see them embark on very different paths, and their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies.

With music by multi-Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy Award winner Stephen Schwartz (Disney’s Pocahontas and Enchanted), Winnie Holzman’s (My So-Called Life) stage adaptation is a sensational musical experience that fast became a theatre staple and must-see. So why haven’t you seen it yet?

Celebrate the show’s 12th birthday by booking your tickets, now!
