Wicked star brings Christmas to London

Published 6 November 2013

Broadway star Eden Espinosa will perform alongside a host of West End stars in the return of festive concert Christmas In New York at the Palace theatre this December.

The American actress, who is best-known for her turn as Wicked’s much-loved green-skinned witch Elphaba in New York, will be joined on 9 December by musical theatre stars well-known for their performances on this side of the Atlantic.

Among them are Lucy May Barker, whose West End credits include Olivier Award-winning musicals Sweeney Todd and Spring Awakening, Les Misérables’ Scott Garnham, who is set to return to the West End in 2014 for the world premiere of I Can’t Sing! The X Factor Musical, and star of Avenue Q and South Pacific Luke Kempner, who will also return to the London stage in the new year to bring his one-man show The Only Way Is Downton to the Trafalgar Studios.

They will be joined by star of Les Misérables on both stage and screen Andy Coxon, and Zoe Rainey, best-known for playing Elphaba’s sister Nessarose in the hit West End musical telling the untold story of the witches of Oz.

The forthcoming concert, which features festive tunes that are sure to get you in the Christmas spirit, from classic carols to hits from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Mariah Carey, will also feature a guest performance from Avenue Q star and original Christmas In New York cast member Julie Atherton.

Christmas In New York, which comes to London’s Palace theatre following its first ever regional performance at the Palace theatre in Manchester, will play at the home of Jamie Lloyd’s production of Roddy Doyle’s The Commitments, which will continue to bring soul to the venue into the new year.
