Hit Oz-based musical Wicked has become the 14th longest-running musical in West End history after surpassing the run of Me And My Girl.

The 1985 production of Noel Gay’s classic musical played 3,303 performances at the Adelphi Theatre before closing in January 1993. Having exceeded this number, Wicked is now hot on the heels of the 1972 production of Jesus Christ Superstar, which is in 13th place with 3,357 performances.

Other current productions featured in the top 20 long-running musicals in West End history include Les Misérables, The Phantom Of The Opera, The Lion King, Mamma Mia! and Billy Elliot The Musical, whose runs range from 11,905 to 3,894 performances.

Wicked, which is also the 10th longest-running show currently playing in the West End, recently welcomed its six millionth audience member through the doors of the Apollo Victoria, along with Kerry Ellis, who has returned to the role of Elphaba.

Based on Gregory Maguire’s novel and featuring music and lyrics by Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz, the show has become well-known for its hit songs, which include Defying Gravity, The Wizard And I, For Good and Popular. It tells the story of two sorcery students and how they end up as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Alongside Ellis, the current London production stars Savannah Stevenson, Jeremy Taylor, Sue Kelvin, Martyn Ellis and Paul Clarkson. It is currently booking until 25 April 2015.

Wicked is also taking part in Kids Week, our annual promotion offering a free child’s ticket for every full price adult ticket purchased for performances throughout August. You can book tickets for the kids go free promotion at www.kidsweek.co.uk
