Video: What is Urinetown?

With a title that has been known to send shudders down the spine of fluid-sensitive theatregoers, have you been wondering ‘What is Urinetown?’ Wee have.

Okay, we haven’t, we saw the splashtastic musical at the St James Theatre earlier in the year, but that seemed the easiest way to get a toilet-based pun in early on.

We’re not, you see, squeamish about the title of the show soon to transfer to the Apollo Theatre. We’re not afraid to say Urinetown The Musical. We love loo-inspired humour a little too much, some might say.

But there are those who get a little flushed by such giggling. That’s fine, but don’t let it put you off the show which, though based in a dystopian future where private toilets are banned and public conveniences are run ruthlessly by an evil tycoon, is not actually about unspeakable bodily functions at all. It’s about musicals, theatre, the environment and silliness.

Don’t believe me, have a look at what Officer Lockstock, aka Jonathan Slinger, has to say in this new trailer.
