Video: Katherine Kingsley Interview

First Published 20 May 2014, Last Updated 6 August 2014

When Katherine Kingsley received an Olivier Award nomination for her acclaimed performance as Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a ripple of approval went out across the West End. This was not just because her performance was so deserving of praise but because Kingsley is one of our stage performers who may be best known for her musical outings, but who is equally adept at delivering drama without the tunes and jazz hands.

That said, she’s now back where many know her best playing female lead Christine Colgate opposite Robert Lindsay and Rufus Hound in Jerry Mitchell’s acclaimed production of hit musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Of her performance in the tale of conmen duelling on the French Riviera, the Evening Standard said she “steals the show”, while the Mail on Sunday said: “With perfect pins, pitch, comic timing and an appropriately ultra-bright smile, her klutzy, ultra-dim Christine Colgate is a class act.”

We met the actress in her Savoy Theatre dressing room – which she shares with a growing collection of toy trolls – to learn more about the show, her ambitions and what advice she’d give to young performers.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels plays at the Savoy Theatre and is currently booking to March 2015. You can buy tickets through us here.
