Video: Haig hair loss for Guys And Dolls

First Published 22 October 2015, Last Updated 22 October 2015

Just what do you have to do to get into character for one of the most iconic musicals of all time? In Olivier Award-winning David Haig’s case… shave off your beard.

Now this isn’t quite a haircut of Gandalf proportions but, as Haig explains in the video above, he has been a hostage manacled to the floor for the past two months – not literally, don’t panic, that was just his last role – and it has left him with some rather unruly facial hair that needs sorting ASAP if he’s going to walk on stage at the Savoy Theatre in a role made famous by Frank Sinatra on screen.

Enter Deborah – armed with scissors, razors and shaving cream – who, luckily for us, has had a chance to quiz the acclaimed actor on his forthcoming role at the same time as ridding him of his abundant whiskers.

Haig will appear in Guys And Dolls (sans beard) from 10 December. The New York-set musical follows his character – Nathan Detroit – as he desperately tries to find money for an illegal dice game. Oh and there’s the little matter of a 14-year engagement with a nightclub singer, whose patience is finally running out, that he also has to deal with…

Fancy heading to Nathan Detroit’s neck of the woods? If you book your Guys And Dolls tickets through us early – and by early we mean before 26 November – you stand the chance of winning an incredible trip to Broadway.
