Trio of plays for under 5s at Unicorn

First Published 8 March 2012, Last Updated 9 March 2012

The Unicorn theatre has a treat in store for young theatregoers next month with its under fives season, a fortnight of plays from leading children’s theatre companies.

Unicorn favourites Little Angel Theatre, Theatr Iolo and Lyngo Theatre will return to the venue with a trio of new and imaginative plays from 3 to 15 April.

First up is Little Angel Theatre’s production of Goldilocks from 3 to 7 April, served with a delicious twist to the classic tale. Directed by Marleen Vermeulen, the play uses table-top puppetry and musical influences around the world to tell the story of Goldilocks, a young girl who likes to explore the world and experience new things. But this time, when she wanders into an empty house, she finds much more than three bowls of porridge…

Cardiff-based company Theatr Iolo will bring the humorous Ruby Red Tells Tales to the Unicorn on 4 and 5 April. Told using the real words of small children and featuring live music, the play begins with Ruby and her friend Ella waiting impatiently for something to happen. Young audiences can join them in a magical fairy tale world where they meet a timid tiger, a slightly scary spider, and laugh with surprise as the gingerbread man meets a sticky end.

Concluding the season, Lyngo Theatre’s family favourite Egg & Spoon returns to the venue from 10 to 15 April to guide audiences through the four seasons, play peek-a-book in puddles and dance at the butterfly party.

The under fives season is part of the Unicorn theatre’s new Artistic Director Purni Morell’s first season at the London Bridge family venue.
