The Lion returns to St James

Benjamin Scheuer will return to the St James Studio this summer to reprise his role in his solo show The Lion from 19 August to 7 September.

The production originally played at the Victoria venue in October last year when it was called The Bridge. It has since enjoyed a successful run off-Broadway at the Manhattan Theatre Club.

Directed by Sean Daniels, The Lion boasts an intriguing combination of one man, six guitars and an incredible story of love, loss and survival.

Scheuer, who was awarded the ASCAP Foundation Cole Porter Award for songwriting in 2013, originally developed the piece from an album of songs that he wrote and premiered at the Lincoln Centre in 2012.

The show will open at the St James Studio following Olivier Award-winning actress Celia Imrie’s stint in the intimate space. Imrie will perform songs and sketches alongside anecdotes from her autobiography for six performances from 13 to 17 August.
