The Last Five Years to return

First Published 24 June 2016, Last Updated 24 June 2016

Jason Robert Brown will direct his award-winning musical at the St. James Theatre this autumn.

The acclaimed musical The Last Five Years will return to London in October, directed by its Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist Jason Robert Brown.

The musical tells the story of Cathy and Jamie, two twenty-something Americans who fall in and out of love with one another over the course of five years. The show has a unique structure, with both characters moving in different directions through time, directing their songs to one another but only interacting once on stage.

The two roles will be played by Samantha Barks and John Bailey. Barks is known for her performances as Eponine in stage and screen adaptations of Les Misérables, while Bailey is known for ITV’s Broadchurch, and on stage in the Olivier Award-winning production of American Psycho.

The Last Five Years opened to great acclaim Off-Broadway in 2002 and has subsequently been staged all over the world. A film adaptation was released in 2014 starring Anna Kendrick.

The show will run at the St. James Theatre from Friday 28 October to Saturday 26 November. For more information and to book tickets, visit the official website
