Stenson to stay Blonde for new Woods role

First Published 9 June 2011, Last Updated 9 June 2011

Carley Stenson is to take over in the role of college sweetheart Elle Woods in Legally Blonde The Musical from 11 July.

Stenson has appeared in the Olivier Award-winning show as ensemble member Margot since October, rising through the sorority ranks to take over as the leading lady from current Elle, Susan McFadden.

Legally Blonde The Musical has been charming audiences at the Savoy theatre since 2009 with its tale of one determined girl’s journey from credit cards and chihuahuas to academics and law school, all for the love of Warner Huntington III. The third leading lady in the show’s West End life, Stenson follows in Sheridan Smith’s Olivier Award-winning, pink-stiletto-wearing, footsteps.

Stenson made her West End debut in the show last October following a 10 year stint in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks. The actress had also previously appeared in regional productions of Grease, The Boyfriend and Olivier!.

As previously announced, Any Dream Will Do-winner Lee Mead will be Stenson’s leading man when he joins the cast from 20 June.
