Stars collide for Mousetrap gala

A stunning cast, including theatrical knight Patrick Stewart, Olivier Award winner Tamsin Greig and Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville, will take to the St Martin’s theatre stage this Sunday to celebrate the 60th anniversary of The Mousetrap.

Game Of Thrones stars Iain Glen and Harry Lloyd, Call The Midwife’s Miranda Hart and stars of stage and screen Julie Walters and Nicholas Farrell will all appear in the 25,000th performance of Agatha Christie’s evergreen whodunit, which holds the record for the world’s longest continuous run of a show.

Prior to the already sold-out performance, which will donate its proceeds to theatrical education charity Mousetrap Theatre Projects, a permanent memorial to Christie, a giant book containing her portrait, will be unveiled at St Martin’s Cross.

Christie’s tale of guests snowed in at a country hotel while a murderer is on the loose first opened at the Ambassadors theatre in 1952, before moving next door to the St Martin’s theatre in 1973 without missing a single performance. A must see for any theatre fan and high on the list of any to-do list for visitors to London’s West End, during the show’s 60 year London run, 411 actors and 239 understudies have appeared in the famous play.
