Songs For Nobodies, written to showcase the extraordinary vocal talents of actress Bernadette Robinson, will transfer to the West End in January.

Having played its European premiere at Wilton’s Music Hall earlier this year, the new play – with songs from five iconic divas: Judy Garland, Patsy Cline, Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf and Maria Callas – will begin performances at the Ambassadors Theatre from 7 January 2019.

Written by award-winning playwright Joanna Murray Smith – who also pens the upcoming production of Honour at the Park Theatre – Songs For Nobodies showcases Robinson’s astonishing talent for recreating the great singers of the past.

Accompanied on stage by live musicians, Robinson’s astounding voice transitions from Billie Holiday’s smoky blues to the remarkable soprano of Maria Callas over 90 minutes of bliss, via Garland, Cline and Piaf – five ordinary women whose singing propelled them to fame.

Of the transfer, Smith said, “It is testimony to Bernadette’s performance that audiences have come back over and over again to see the show because their reaction is so deeply felt and because they feel so uplifted. They laugh, cry and contemplate defining moments in their own lives, at the same time as being totally stunned by a single performer’s inspirational ability to resurrect beloved icons.”

Robinson is a familiar face on the Australian concert stages, having performed sell-out concerts at the Sydney Opera House and Adelaide Festival Centre, and at high-profile events across the world.

Her one-woman tour de force show will officially open on 10 January, playing a limited 7 week run until 23 February.

The Ambassadors Theatre currently hosts dark drama Foxfinder, starring Game Of Thrones’ Iwan Rheon.
