Sarah Lancashire withdraws from Labour Of Love

First Published 1 September 2017, Last Updated 1 September 2017

Sarah Lancashire has regretfully had to withdraw from the forthcoming world premiere of James Graham’s Labour Of Love, with her role now set to be played by Olivier Award-winning actress Tamsin Greig.

Producers MGC and Headlong have today announced that Lancashire’s withdrawal on doctor’s advice will see Greig play Jean Whittaker, opposite Martin Freeman as David Lyons, when the show opens at the Noël Coward Theatre.

Labour Of Love now opens on 3 October, with previews from 27 September, and runs until 2 December.

Greig’s recent theatre credits include Twelfth Night, Gethsemane (National Theatre), The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide To Capitalism And Socialism With A Key To The Scriptures (or iHo), and Longing (Hampstead Theatre), for the RSC.

This razor-sharp political comedy reunites James Graham and director Jeremy Herrin following their previous collaboration on Headlong’s This House, which was recently revived at the Garrick Theatre, following its earlier critically acclaimed run at the National Theatre.

MGC continue their commitment to offer over 20,000 tickets at £10 (including booking fee and restoration levy), which is 25% of the tickets for the entire run, across all levels of the auditorium. In addition, they will stage access performances – with both captioned and audio described performances.

Labour MP David Lyons cares about modernisation and “electability”… His constituency agent, Jean Whittaker cares about principles and her community. Set away from the Westminster bubble in the party’s traditional northern heartlands, this is a clash of philosophy, culture and class against the backdrop of the Labour Party over 25 years, as it moves from Kinnock through Blair into Corbyn… and beyond?

You can book your tickets through the Labour Of Love website.
